Also, are there any website-building platforms (wix or wordpress style) that accept Bitcoin? With extremely limited coding background (ie a single course in html and markdown) I think I’ll need to rely on one of these tools. But I’d also be happy to take expert advice if there’s a better way? #asknostr #askadeveloper nostr:note1g6cch53kl4wq0rhcv7c6vm4hgtpv096zk9h79ugszm999auk4haspf7e9c
I like your thinking
Paging nostr:npub1f6ugxyxkknket3kkdgu4k0fu74vmshawermkj8d06sz6jts9t4kslazcka not sure if this is exactly your wheelhouse, but thought you might have some ideas or pointers, in terms of setting up a new website with moderate privacy and security (with limited technical know-how)?

are you going to build a dynamic or static site? many sites really don't need to use a dynamic site builder wordpress. hugo + netlify is great for building static sites. it converts markdown to a website which is very cool if you're familiar with markdown or do you need drag and drop builder like elementor, thrive themes etc. (doesn't accept btc or ln) beyond what the wp builder can do for example?
At least for the moment, the site will be pretty static. Simple/informational with text, images, external links, and maybe a feedback form. My familiarity level with MD is extremely basic. So part of this is me debating whether to get the website up as quickly and nicely as possible, or to use it as a skill-building exercise. But with limited time in my day to day life, I’m leaning toward a drag and drop builder. And also trying to figure out whether I can pay for the CMS within the domain registration plan all with sats — it would defeat the purpose to get the domain privately and then give WP my credit card lol
It looks like both namecheap and bitcoinwebhosting.net offer a Wordpress site builder and accept sats. Now to decide between a very new (but Bitcoin focused) business, or a well-established “name brand” platform 🤔 Re: Hugo/netlify - does that markdown function go both ways? (Ie I could build the site with wysiwyg and then flip it to markdown and learn more that way)?
i haven't used the namecheap builder so i can't speak to that. for 10 years generatepress has been my goto for wordpress site building. they are free and open source (you'll quickly want the premium version though), lightweight, blazing fast (no bloat). check out the video of their block based builder https://generatepress.com/ i haven't really found any privacy-focused builders per se, but gp has a clear privacy policy (so you can understand how to download the wp plugin, navigate their site, and communicate with them as privately as possible) and only require an email (use an alias). the other info is optional. i have the premium lifetime plan. you can always use a visa card payed for with sats using #bitrefill or #thebitcoincompany. you can create a decoy name and address to make the payment. i haven't had to convert a wp site to static before but i looked into it for a client. i am aware of a wp plugin that helps with this "Simply Static is a static site generator that converts your existing WordPress website to a static website that you can host on your server, a static hosting provider, or a CDN." there is also a course with scripts on freecodecamp https://www.freecodecamp.org/news/wordpress-to-hugo-scripts/ i have to run, but dm me a simplex invite and i can help get you started. p.s. there's a privacy respecting analytics plugin for wp that's i like to use over google analytics called plausible. check it out https://plausible.io/privacy-focused-web-analytics
Thank you so much, Ava, this is extremely helpful! I’ll explore the options this afternoon and definitely hit you up with questions 🙏⚡️

Might want to take a glance at Concrete5 too.
Thanks! The site I’m working on will be more informational than eCom but that’s great to know 🙏
