Bodybuilding and powerlifting people on the internet have completely lost the plot. So have the endurance people for that matter. Look, those are all sports and the people doing them are training for their sport. They forget that and start telling everyone that their way is the best way to be fit in general and everyone with every goal should train like them. The best cardio for martial arts will not come from endurance running. The best strength for martial arts will not come from bodybuilding or power lifting. It definitely won't come from killing yourself following some plan based around steroid use (every bodybuilding and powerlifting plan) if you aren't on them. If you want to do those sports then you do you, that isn't my complaint. The issue is that for most people ignoring them both and doing a strength and conditioning program designed for fighters or football players would payoff more in quality of life results. The number 1 takeaway is, if those aren't your sport ignore people who do them and find a strength and conditioning program designed for athletes in your sport.
For those wondering what exactly is the difference, it is explosive power production and full body involvement in a movement. Endurance athletes are always at low strength output. Bodybuilders and powerlifters are always moving slow. Bodybuilders are always isolating. Real athletic performance requires repeated explosive movements using the entire body. Usually those movements involve cross body mechanics and twisting. Connecting the left foot to the right hand through the core for example.
