"So you think that money is the root of all evil? Have you ever asked what is the root of money? Money is a tool of exchange, which can't exist unless there are goods produced and men able to produce them. Money is the material shape of the principle that men who wish to deal with one another must deal by trade and give value for value. Money is your means of survival. The verdict which you pronounce upon the source of your livelihood is the verdict you pronounce upon your life. If the source is corrupt, you have damned your own existence. Did you get your money by fraud? By pandering to men's vices or men's stupidity? By catering to fools, in the hope of getting more than your ability deserves? By lowering your standards? By doing work you despise for purchasers you scorn? If so, then your money will not give you a moment's or a penny's worth of joy. Then all the things you buy will become, not a tribute to you, but a reproach; not an achievement, but a reminder of shame." - Francisco d'Anconia, Atlas Shrugged

Until and unless you discover that money is the root of all good, you ask for your own destruction. When money ceases to be the tool by which men deal with one another, then men become the tools of men. Blood, whips, and guns – or dollars. Take your choice – there is no other – and your time is running out. nostr:nevent1qqs0yagz78jl8ac3xtxjlyssrsmu5783nqyvs2rjf640s7lcvu0n4yqpz4mhxue69uhhyetvv9ujuerpd46hxtnfduhsyg8h9rv7decysdvwwzfs7h9xfvyhwuxe38xds6z5lescak5u3gupqcpsgqqqqqqshm8sre

It is the LOVE of money that is the root of all evil. Because money is the tool of exchange for the productive endeavors of people, and also the store of that value, those that love money may not necessarily love the idea of working and labouring. Merely thinking of scams to transfer that storage of productivity directly to ones' own custody have spawned all kinds of evil.

Right. When you misquote it, it's just a straw man argument.

It's the "love of money"

This is one of the most commonly misquoted sayings: “For the LOVE of money is A root of ALL KINDS of evil.” - St. Paul. Nor do I see anything inconsistent with Christ’s teachings in Francisco’s / Rand’s excellent summary (the Parable of the Talents fits particularly well here).

Rand argued against this concept. She argued against altruism and the entire idea of sacrificing oneself for the greater good.

Exactly. Thank you, and thank you. Word!
The phrase is actually deeper. Going back to this, here's the entire passage: 6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
