This is why I'm loving nostr....pure knowledge and sharing of information. Thanks, more reading for me. One of the things that also jolted me into thinking about this was the talk about Damus having to get on the app store. Why couldn't they just have a dmg that could be downloaded by anybody? I'm probably showing my lack of knowledge about Apple here.

I think he could allow a direct app download, but I'm not sure it's easy to install, or it may be impossible. But it isn't normie friendly, and I think the purpose of Damus is mass adoption. Ultimately, iOS controls your hardware and software with their OS, so they could blacklist binaries/DMGs if they wanted to as well. We need sovereign OS too, like Linux but more user-friendly lol.
Kinda frustrating cause we're all on nostr for the decentralised/self sovereign ethos but every one of us relies on two protocols/companies for our access.

thats the thing. its protocols and NOT companies. everybody can code everything himself.
Yea, so the software side is probably more plausible for such a new device but the hardware, due to costs/centralised production and licensing isn't so easy.
now i read the post earlier. yes apple sucks. there will be phones with linux in the future.
I really like the seedsigner/hack yourself a device out of anything with a CPU/raspberry pi/etc ethos. It would be awesome if cell phones could get to this point. It's also extremely cyberpunk lol 🤙🤙🤙
I'm with you on that. It's great to see some of these linux phones being rolled out but having a diy kit type unit would be cool. 🤙
