lightning is not perfect but its still the best way to transact instantly offchain without needing to trust anyone. I can’t see ecash ever offsetting that. It just doesn’t bring enough to the table over custodial lightning. With private zaps, you get good enough privacy for most use cases. lightning #zaps are the standard

Better than wallet of Satoshi?
Agreed! Zap
for sure
as long as non-custodial is a viable option and gets easier over time, that is the most important to me. with ecash you are kinda locked into the mint if we start building ecash interfaces on everything, because it doesn't make much sense to run your own mint on top of your lightning node. i still think ecash is great for corporations and small communities, then you don't have to worry about the trust issues, swapping tokens, etc. lightning is built for the internet, ecash is built for use within trusted communities. different use cases imo.
definitely a different vision. that's alright, we'll see which one is most sucessful. not for me to decide.

Same. I definitely have my gripes about lightning, but until a better system comes along, it's kind of what we have to work with that is trustless And it's still actually Bitcoin.
yourself ?
false
there's a 2of2 and unilateral spend with a punishment if you lie. there is no trust.
anyone can close at anytime, that's a part of the protocol. if you didn't have that then you wouldn't be able to unilaterally take your funds if the counterparty never comes back online.
I optimize for not being rugged over privacy. benefits of running your own node is that you get both.
when people say trustless they mean that you don't have to worry about the other party rugging you. if they open a channel to you, they pay the fees, so closing the channel is only a detriment to them. if the other person wants inbound liquidity they can pay you to open a channel. then there is no risk or trust.
