When you run a Lightning node from home, you have two expectations: to not reveal your real IP address to the rest of the world and to route some payments with your channels to make some passive income from routing fees. However, enabling Tor to obfuscate your IP adds some latency which makes you less likely to get involved in the transaction routing process too often. So from this point of view, a VPN subscription works much better. In S13 E15 of the Bitcoin Takeover podcast, Bolt Observer CEO and co-founder Aljaz Ceru gives you some free advice on how to run a successful Lightning Network node.
