Satoshi Nakamoto did not personally refer to the smallest unit of Bitcoin as a “satoshi.” The term was proposed by a BitcoinTalk user named “ribuck” in November 2010, suggesting that 0.01 BTC be called a “satoshi.” Later, he proposed that the one hundred millionth unit (0.00000001 BTC) be called a “satoshi,” and this naming convention gained widespread adoption within the #Bitcoin community.
