Got absolutely decimated by taxes this season.
One of the realities of taxes for priests: the IRS, because it operates on a Protestant model, sees us as "self-employed." I'm about as self-employed as a prisoner making license plates, as the nature of the Church dictates that the Bishop "employs" me to assist him in his ministry; I am fully dependent upon the consent of the Bishop in everything that I do. A long way to explain that I pay both sides of Social Security, which I shouldn't. nostr:nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzpzhmwh72ryutegfs8cpv0td4qnhvfl9q8ug5r3tq02lshlhazjdjqy2hwumn8ghj7erfw36x7tnsw43z7un9d3shjqg4waehxw309ajxjar5duh8qatz9aex2mrp0yqzqvfl63jhn7apqqc6h8z3lc5v3yhj3qug6jzp6deaewwqupdtcdjtxm52jg
I whine about this once a year, and have for 15 years... so see you again in a year.
For us, all depends upon what kind of clergy you are. Technically, our nuns and priests/brothers religious aren't "paid." But diocesan priests, who can own property, need a salary to live in the world, since that's where they work. But it ain't much, let me tell you. An old saying: "Religious take the vow of poverty, and the diocesan clergy live it."
