i'm assuming you're running bookworm. it is likely a compatibility or dependency issue. i will try to install with debian 12 after dinner. until then, please try to install using a fedora template and app vm instead
qubesos 4.2 switched from iptables to nftables and afaik qubes-tunnel isn't updated yet. https://forum.qubes-os.org/t/can-t-get-the-qubesos-contrib-qubes-tunnel-to-work-in-4-2/22054 the setup i mentioned is much simpler and works on 4.2. lmk how you go with the Fedora template
can confirm protonvpn works on 4.2. i have not tried nord with 4.2
it depends on your needs. protonvpn gui works out of the box, you can switch servers on the fly with killswitch engaged. just set the qube(s) and app(s) to autostart on boot, create app launchers on your taskbar and you're good to go
