I will be glad to see the legacy VISA/MC card system go. They've indoctrinated multiple generations into thinking it's normal to have somebody else decide whether or not you can spend your money — and then charge you for the privilege.

If we're not careful with the development and self sovereignty of Lightning, it can totally go the way of some of the Visa problems. The fees are starting to go up across the board and they're percentage-based too, which is a "visa level" worry. Especially on the self custodial side, which is going to drive more people to lightning banks which will eventually repeat the same problems we already had. If we keep lightning sufficiently self sovereign and build in better privacy practices, it's got a real shot at being the Tor of Bitcoin.

They've also indoctrinated people into disclosing their secrets in order to prove their identity.

Concur. Lightening nodes are not something every Alice and Bob can deploy. Potentially a centralizing bottleneck in a decentralized system.
You realize this proves my point right? Phoenix only works connected to the single most central node on the entire network.
