Finally got my drives for my NAS. Here begins another phase of a pleb working toward owning as much of his own shit as possible. Will have 24 TB of storage in a raid 1 configuration. Should keep me busy for a while. #sovereignty https://i.nostr.build/mzRQ.jpg

Awesome man! Way to go
Synology. One step at a time for me.
Trying to
Using synology to start with.

Being insane, I would probably instead consider getting a 3-5+ year old server, run ZFS and install everything myself

Time and skills are my issue. One step at a time.
ZFS is just better imo in these cases. Btrfs is great but it's a steaming pile of shit for RAID 5/6. Synology also gives you a tiny amount of RAM with no ECC and a CPU that is slow as fuck if you want to do anything remotely decent
Guess I need to consult you more before committing to things. Oh well it’s a start Mine does have nmv slots to help with caching. Hoping that will help. Have a few spares lying around
For a cache use high endurance NVMes. It doesn't need to be really fast. Crucial P3 is crap in terms of endurance, Crucial P5 and Samsung 980 Pro is fine but the performance is not going to be fully utilized, so I'd recommend Samsung's 980 SSD NVMes Also SanDisk/WD is ultra shit

If you’re gonna do multiple bitcoin instances, ZFS or btrfs are way better than ext4. Copy on write filesystems allow you to “copy” the entire blockchain nearly instantly, and it’s only when one instance modifies a “copied” file that the copy gets written to disk. If you have 5 instances, you don’t need 5 copies of the blockchain.
Cheers semi. I have Samsung 980
