The reason I open Nostr once an hour, is coz it consumes lot of data. What's the way around ? Am on the move, no access to WiFi always

Some clients are better at pulling data only once. If you have a laptop try gossip client with a hotspot to your phone

I try not to open when I don’t have wifi connection. Gotta try to switch to unlimited 🤷♂️

Ah now I understand why gossip. What else is to say about this client?

I will consume a lot more data to open every hour (app needs to recheck with all relays) than to keep it open of a full hour.

Most clients right now are better described as DDOS tools, loading about x100 the data they actually need and multiple times if you navigate back and forth. We'll get there eventually but right now there is no server aka relay that would support charging for read load or any "load" for that matter. Paid relays only flip a switch, allowing the user's events to be stored there.

Maybe if youre off wifi and want to nostr you could just connect to like one good relay. Still probably uses a lot of data.

Been saying this for some time, I just blocked mobile data for the app. I will try to use only relay for reading and many for write. I was also thinking of having my own private relay that would manage multiple relays and use only that in mobile.

Might wanna look into this, if you’re able to run a small middleware server https://github.com/Dolu89/nostr-proxy
Look like what I wanted! Thanks!

Try getting a mobile hotspot?

whats a middleware server and does it make sense to run on same machine as bitcoin node?
The proxy server would sit between the Nostr clients and the relays. So, it’s a server in the middle of those connections. Instead of the Nostr client regularly polling every websocket connection from your saved relays, it would instead only use the single proxy server connection. This should reduce the bandwidth your mobile device will do as the proxy server will be doing the heavy lifting.
Thank you everyone
