I liked these nostr clients better when we couldn't see all the zap amounts, sats just showed up and things werent about a score. We dont want randos knowing what just got sent to our hot wallets. This type of data could become a serious risk in meatspace at larger scales.

Profile zaps dont, but from what I can tell, most zaps are done through notes. Just feel that it encourages celebrities. Very fiat minded imo

Agree, but hard to think of anything to satisfy both sides! If we had an option to “hide” amount or number of zaps, or both, then it still would not solve the problem. Celebs can easily keep it open. 🐶🐾🤔

nips are just possibilities, clients can go different ways, i see no reason anon zaps cant remain with public zaps
If you click on the note and tap the word zaps it will give you a breakdown of how much different people gave. Its built into Damus.

I’m not a fan of public zap amounts either. Likewise profile badges for the same reasons stated in this thread.

People who dont care (influencers) will turn them on and forever be the "elite“ on Nostr. It gives people a way to have status over others. Its a slippery slope.

Everything feels so organic without all that.
Potential to distract from the note content, creates divisions and a hierarchy between users in a community rather than building one, and serves no real purpose other than to massage egos.

We can send anon sats by using the profile LNURL, but I believe an anon option should also be available for zapping notes

Definitely. It should always be about selective disclosure at the very least. What we need now are clients that ask the user whether or not they would like the zap broadcasted to the whole world before they do it. #[0]

I believe snort allows you to broadcast one anonymously.

I can see that. I care more about the privacy implications than the social implications but I can see how it changes the dynamics. I'm guessing you're not a fan of public V4V messages either then?
Not a fan, but I see why people like it, just seems counterintuitive for privacy on Bitcoin and lightning. It can all be anon, but they chose to design it to be publicly displayed. V4V could not let you comment unless you send sats, but not include the amount.
