My kid asking me why 5 times makes me quickly realize I don’t know anything. I should know, and I confidently think I do, but when it comes to answering I have no clue.

A good reminder to stay humble and be open to the ideas of others. You’re doing a good job dad!

Haha agreed!
“Son, let me ask chatgpt”
🤣 I’d rather try to bullshit my way out of it 🤣
My go to is “I don’t know” and that’s met with another why 😆

Children are the greatest teachers 😊
🤣And then the thought of, “I should know this. What kind of father am I?” Runs through your head.
It would be awesome if adults could act accordingly without feeling judged for things they don’t know, and feel the need to defend an opinion that might be poorly thought out or based on a shaky foundation of knowledge. I’ve noticed I’m often quick to look for flaws in arguments and lately try to defer judgement in favor of identifying things that make sense instead. It’s going to be an ongoing challenge for sure.

I was explaining dormant vs extinct vs active volcanoes last night and I was like goddamn I need an assist right now lol
It would be, but by nature we all feel like we need something to protect. I think... with a culture that diminishes the importance of the things worth protecting, people are left with a void so they defend what they then view as most vulnerable about themselves. Maybe I'm way off base, but the concept helps me view the world through less jaded eyes. You'll teach your kids something much more valuable than whatever the answers to those "why" questions may be, just by showing them that you're willing to admit you don't know. Then you can learn the answers together (which is also super fun!)

My kid has me googling stuff frequently, too. My dad never got tired of explaining the world to me and I intend to keep it the same and circle back to her questions when I have the answer or explore it with her together. Never kill a kid's curiosity!
You’re a good dad man. Keep it up.

Agreed. One of my common responses to this kids questions is, “I don’t know, let’s look it up together.”
