this is exactly what early/pre 5000 users Twitter felt like. But better.

That just gave me goosebumps. Old enough to remember texting in some of my first tweets on my original account.

I’m surprised by how easy this was to set up. Seems like this has a fighting chance.

That’s really good to read.

Interesting stuff. Curious to learn about relays.

is it possible to massively scale while keeping this feeling? it’s so nice..
ec8f7 - 2y
it's just sockets, there will always be a relay performant enough to emit/receive any load. look at how stock/crypto exchange sockets handle that traffic. their TPS is wild, and sometimes they have millions of subscribers at once, and they're fanning out millions of messages per second with no issue
sweet. there’s definitely a need for a decentralized platform so i look forward to seeing where this goes

Seems a protocol with a lot of potential. Thanks for pointing me to it with your Twitter post.

Thanks for posting about this on Twitter, Jack.

That’s what I said too, on your Twitter post! it’s very reminiscent

oh?

why better? I'm on iOS Damus, the UI/UX is really quite terrible and performance is abysmal. Twitter was always very clean looking and intuitive. The protocol seems great, but I wonder how it would perform for someone who follows 1000 people or someone who has 1M followers. Judging from what we have right now, it doesn't seem like any Nostr client would be capable to scale properly.

Indeed the current state isn’t great, but the sheer potential is obvious. With time polish follows.

Were you there in the beginning? Fail whales and stuff

Right now clients do all the work, which is a great base - don’t trust, verify. However relays can summarise information and send that with events - like reply or like counts - instead of clients downloading 100s of replies or like events. Relays can also pre-compute or cache your timeline using your contact list, to help with performance. Lots of options.. just need time to improve the backend tooling.
We have work to do
it wasn’t at the start…

Is this competing with the AT Protocol or complementary?
competition in this space is good.

Go on the wayback machine and get a feel of what early Twitter was like. Time will take care of the performance issues.
