People complain about national taxation, but before that, people were pressed into paying local warlords. There was no advanced planning or legal redress. And since people weren't yet particularly productive, even relatively small taxes, like the traditional tenth, were highly onerous and could result in starvation. Once you realize most anarcho-libertarian polices are fashioned for people hunting Injuns and bears, in the Wild West, where their next neighbor is 25 miles away, they make some sort of sense. Otherwise, not.

There is nothing that a state does that couldn't be done better by a private company. A very narrow take of this, Laeserin.
Warlords we get to elect. Anarchy is just everyone being a warlord, after all.
