One idea is to have niche relays AND create an onboarding experience that throws people into these relays by default. nostr:nevent1qqsz9lycqkkg34ce0m2m648krt2c97m69m8rdpxlu267t25mhyuyregpz9mhxue69uhkummnw3ezumr49e4k2qguwaehxw309ahx7um5wghxy6t5vdhkjmn9wgh8xmmrd9skcfy0cgq
I mean: suppose I like baseball and I dwell in two or three baseball relays. Then I should be able to share something to my baseball fan friends that makes them click a link and be automatically inside these baseball relays as their "global" feed the first time they open the app. Then they can start following people and learning about other relays later.

Does this start to move more into the federated Mastodon model? Who runs the niche relays?

Wouldn’t it be difficult because you’d have bitcoiners join those relays anyway? They’d stared taking there and the normie relay will also turn into bitcoin relays.
I should check my autocorrects before hitting send 😂 L

Relays need tools to defend themselves from unwanted pubkeys and content. There are real ways to do this but we haven’t done them yet.
Alright devs too. Point being is that you can’t really know who you’re letting into your relays. Conversation will unfold one way or another.
I don't get what you mean by shared knowledge. How is Twitter a network of shared knowledge?
We sure did. And I agree. We already have most of the tools needed for “friendlier” experiences. Almost there.
What e-girls? There is no such a thing as "devs coming together", that will never happen.

Separation by relays is a futile attempt and misses the point that relays are data providers not content categorization tools

Not all relays need to behave in the same way right?
Come together.. right now … 🎶
Sure. But they are designed to be data providers. They are not meant to categorize content. The point of paid relays is not to prevent spam but to make relays sustainable. (if you don’t use one time fees like 99.9% of relays, that is) Clients can and will lump together all the data they get from relays.
So do you think the solution to creating niche content is to be solved just by clients? Or something else?
There’s actually a great opportunity here. That’s all I’ll say.
If you are asking for users to be initially shown niche content: that sounds a bit too much like an echo chamber for new users with only the content they like to get them staying longer If you mean niche content discovery: that could be improved
Who do you think should be improving the niche content discovery?
Both models can coexist.
Things get built with demand. Most devs right now don’t see enough demand for adult content on here to build a full on *dedicated* app. Everyone expects devs to build the thing they want but there is no real demand except a few users for most things and no incentive for them to do it. And when devs try to earn at least a little bit by taking a cut of transactions done through their app for example (because let’s be honest, donations won’t work for niches like this at least in the growth phase), everyone is going to yell “you weren’t supposed to take fees”
Clients.
