On Amethyst image/gif/videos are never cropped. The show more is very helpful for very long post and threads, IMO.

I’d love to control show more and in the same light i would strive to be known as someone who uses nice cropped landscape photos that don’t take up much of the feed

I like the way “show more” works in Plebstr by just expanding the full post in place in your feed without taking you to a different screen.
