Watched El Topo (1970), directed, written and starring Alejandro Jodorowsky. The film follows El Topo, a cowboy dressed in all black, on a spiritual quest through a weird desert. Feels like the good, the bad and the ugly on a heroic dose of shrooms. He has to fight odd characters to achieve enlightenment. The movie was filmed in multiple regions of Mexico. It’s absolutely stunning. At first I wasn’t really sure what the movie was about, since it’s so weird. But once you get to the second part, it’s about the violent encounters between different religion. It’s a cult classic. Very odd movie. 7.2/10 #nodereviews
I knew him from the graphic novels he wrote. He’s a legendary storyteller. I discovered recently that he’s also a prolific movie director. I guess it’s time to watch all his stuff 😂
Not yet. This is the first one of his I’ve watched. I tried watching Fando Y Lis before this one, but the version I found had the commentary of Jodorowsky over the movie so I watched this one instead. I’ll try and find it. Thanks!
