It works! Had to manual enable Notification in Android Settings -> Notifications -> Apps -> Amethyst. Very good. Thanks

Yes and no. You can host your own push server. Nextcloud has one and there is a popular one called gotify. You could use pushbullet but that would be a non-self hosted option. End of the day though the client you're using has to support alternative push methods and most dont.

yeah i definitely agree with you there. i like that nostr clients so far have not had notifications and i'm pretty happy to keep it that way. that being said i wish more applications supported alternative push methods. i'm not really sure what that takes to implement though
There is a Telegram bot which notifies you if you have incoming DM's. It's called Pingstr. And it works!
