Coats aren't cool, man! Teenagers in our city definitely have an aversion to winter coats. Drive by the high school at -20C and people are standing outside in hoodies and sometimes shirts. To be fair, kids are able to handle cold better than adults. Acclimation also makes a big difference. I try to keep on the cooler side during the fall and early winter and it helps prep the body for colder temps. Once you're cold, you can get into trouble really quick. Having the option to step into a warm building is something city dwellers take for granted, it gets them into trouble outside of the city. Also, it doesn't take much to get moderate frost bite and that damage can stay with you your whole life.
