You should also look at #reticulum. It can run on same hardware for LoRa as #meshtastic but is a much broader network approach which can be expanded by WiFi, TCP/IP aso But it is in a much earlier stage of development

I think it is o.k. to start with meshtastic because of the lower barrier of entry. My way: Playing around with #meshtastic hard- and software. Reading the #reticulum manual in parallel.

Got my Meshtastic RAKwireless solar nodes up and running! One is in place and covering the Southern part of the city and the next is going on the North side. Had a few nights of -5C and barely any drop in battery level overnight. Waiting for -20C to see how it goes. Very impressed so far. Going to be adding temperature, humidity and barometer sensors to them soon. It will be interesting to see what the temps do inside the enclosures over the winter. LoRa is using up desk space quickly - the reason for me to go down this route is to (one day) send ecash over radio. #meshtastic

Started my #meshtastic journey yesterday with two Heltec LoRa 32. Impressive how everything works already. Nano G2 and T-Deck are ordered and will arrive early enough to play around before Christmas.
Using Amethyst, I can follow a tag like #Meshtastic. I get any tagged content piped right into my feed that way.
