that's been me for a long time but i'm planning to get my license and travel in a van with my cat to ... i never knew the name of it but ok, serbian carpathian mountains. i've been on the edges of parts of this area, it's distinctly named because the balkans range crosses over from a bit furhter south in serbia (near nis) across northern parts of bulgaria, Sofia is on that range. anyway, random geography fact. i love scooters, they are my favourite generic type of transport, in fact if i could get a light enough one i'd get a mount for it so it can hang at the back of my van, and be my main way around while i am parked, in warm seasons. i've seen this brand "tomos" that do this underbone style, which is my favourite style of scooter, i used to own a bigger more bulky one called "Sachs Madass" which was pretty sweet but underpowered to cope with mountains. i'd probably get the lightest little 50cc i can find and then swap in a big bore cylinder and if it didn't already, put light spoked wheels on it and maybe maybe a turbo.
http://www.scooterprijs.nl/scooters/tomos/flexer-ex.html this is the model i've seen that i really like. it's a slovenian scooter, which explains why i have seen it all across eastern europe. this particular range uses a formed steel pipe as the main frame, similar to the madass. so you know what a madass is: https://www.theparking-motorcycle.eu/used-motorcycles/sachs-madass-50-germany.html somewhat similar design but the big difference is in the madass the tank is integrated into that tube that goes up from the rear wheel up to the triple tree. the tomos is kinda more elegant, and really makes sense to call them "underbone" because it hangs the 1 cylinder engine right under the "bone" of the middle of the bike. the madass looks a bit more sexy but the integral tank means a much bigger tube and this results in the bike being 85kg which is too big for slinging on the back of a van but a tomos is only 52kg which is like the difference of having a 10 year old riding pillion behind you, and honestly the madass seat is awful.
