Japan’s National Police Agency has announced that skirts will be discontinued starting in April as part of the uniform for female police officers assigned to duties such as police station patrols. While the change will be official in April, nearly all female officers in Japan already opt for more practical pants for ease of movement. Additionally, to address extreme heat, a new summer uniform will be introduced, featuring ‘breathable polo-style shirts’ as an optional choice. According to the agency, skirts were once widely worn by female officers, particularly in traffic enforcement roles. However, duties such as rapid response from police stations or apprehending suspects have rendered skirts functionally obsolete, with almost no officers currently choosing them. Further reforms include standardizing rank insignia sizes (previously differing between genders) and introducing polo-style shirts with enhanced breathability and quick-drying properties for heat mitigation. https://archive.ph/SIOm0 I wish this was an april fool's joke but got me down all day, check dates if in doubt btw.
