That's accurate. If the zap receipt is published to a relay that your client isn't reading from, you will not see it in the zap counter. Some clients are better about it than others. A client that correctly implements the outbox model will request the zap receipt from the recipient of the zap's public inbox relays, where the wallet should have published the receipt to.
