I wish Nostr clients displayed sequences of notes as "threads" like Twitter.
PABLOF7z @PABLOF7z - 1y
Like coracle?
Coracle does that? I think not. I mean notes from the same person combined together in a readable sequence.

Why have that if you have no character limit?
Tony @Tony - 1y
You’ll be able to separate your larger thesis into digestible chunks or building blocks and get feedback on separate pieces of the general larger info you are putting across.
😞 thought we were over Twitter threads but I guess some people like them.
Long form article better for communicating larger ideas imo
I’m just passing the thought along. I think Highlighter will do a much better job at addressing chunks of text than the necessity to break your thought into pieces.
Exactly; break the thing into the chunks as the reader sees fit

Yes, 100%
Posting that here once more, because threaded conversations and character limits truly are ingenious.

I think one of the best points in favor of threading made by #[4] is the ability to have replies and discussions about specific paragraphs and sentences. Totally agree.

Thanks for trying that out 🧡

Which is kind of where nostr:npub1l2vyh47mk2p0qlsku7hg0vn29faehy9hy34ygaclpn66ukqp3afqutajft 's highlighter.com comes into play, but that would involve jumping to a different client for that post.
we need to make jumping through apps seamless or superapps win and nostr is fucked

Yeah, I'm sure it's painful to implement these edge cases, but I think people underestimate how powerful threaded conversations are. nostr:nevent1qqstrtc4l6kww4pm2tshxh33alw8qynnlzcxwzgkrfal0xm8g5fs94cpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejsygrwg6zz9hahfftnsup23q3mnv5pdz46hpj4l2ktdpfu6rhpthhwjvpsgqqqqqqstw7hqn

I do enjoy some conversation continuity.

Number of times on Twitter I’ve cut out waffle and hedging and maybes and possiblys and probablys &c. to meet the character limit and ended up with a better tweet because of it

I didn't even see these other replies until I went further down.

What if Nostr does bigger notes well (so we can just skip the need for tools to turn threads into articles that are easier to read) & something like highlights will allow people to focus on or respond to specific points? Maybe we still need some minor incentive to be concise? 🤔 nostr:nevent1qqstrtc4l6kww4pm2tshxh33alw8qynnlzcxwzgkrfal0xm8g5fs94cpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejsygrwg6zz9hahfftnsup23q3mnv5pdz46hpj4l2ktdpfu6rhpthhwjvpsgqqqqqqstw7hqn
Highlighting the specific passage and responding to it is superior to threads imo as you, as the person responding/reacting to something can specifically mark what you are responding to. I do agree with nostr:npub1dergggklka99wwrs92yz8wdjs952h2ux2ha2ed598ngwu9w7a6fsh9xzpc that the character constraints tends to sharpen your thinking to be more precise.
the one obvious caveat is the reduction in nuance; I wonder if part of the polarization and strawmanning we've seen in the past decades is partly due to this constraint.
A tweet is not a thread, and a thread is not a blog post. Different medium. Different message. nostr:nevent1qqszsrem3j2lhseummmd6c9knnufy6atrutyzfaexzpdrd8swd9ad3qpzpmhxue69uhkummnw3ezuamfdejsygrwg6zz9hahfftnsup23q3mnv5pdz46hpj4l2ktdpfu6rhpthhwjvpsgqqqqqqsu6r82w
I wouldn't say it's superior in general. Threads are different from highlights. There is a reason why they evolved, and I'd say it's not purely because of limitation. I like to think of them as paragraphs. And when sharing media, it's almost like a slideshow. Threads are useful imho and different from blog posts. It goes without saying that I'm a fan of highlighter (understatement of the century). In case one of the onlookers doesn't know, I wrote this blog post a while ago: https://dergigi.com/2023/04/04/purple-text-orange-highlights/
