I’ve been playing Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma for a bit now, and I’m really into it. Here are my first impressions: The characters are super likable, and the story’s actually interesting this time. Compared to the older games, it’s a big step up. Honestly, the plot in RF5 was what made me stop playing, it just didn’t grab my attention at all. This one isn’t deep or anything, but it’s fun and keeps things moving.
One of the coolest things is how they changed up the farming. It’s not just planting and harvesting anymore. You get to decorate your fields and place buildings that do different things, which gives it a light strategy feel. It’s creative and way more engaging than I expected.
The combat’s also way better. It finally feels like there’s some weight and flow to it, instead of just mindlessly smashing buttons. The map is a huge improvement. The one in RF5 felt slapped together and frustrating to explore. This one isn’t perfect, but it actually makes sense and feels like a real place. Guardians feels like a game that respects your time and effort. It’s everything I hoped RF5 would be, but wasn’t.
Also, you can catch Hina brushing her tail. It’s as cute as it sounds. #gamestr
