so, i learned something today, you can put FOUR o-rings on relegendable cherry compatible keycaps with cherry silver (and i assume gateron white) key switches because they don't have to be pushed far to switch it makes them quieter and easier to type on because you get a definite tactile "pressed" feedback way before the mechanism goes to the stupid end of its very long distance further than the switching distance win... so, 4 o rings is possible, and it makes the short travel tactile type of switch work even better, for reducing strain and shorter response i bet i can type 120wpm when i've got all the prophylactics on my kesy now

for these relegendable keys at least, 3 is the max cherry silver and gateron white are "fast" keys which means they have light springs and the scissor closes when they are only barely 2mm pressed... the full travel distance, however, is a lot further, and when they hit down they are plastic hitting plastic 3 silicone o rings on each key means they hit bottom and give the tactile feedback just a little bit deeper than the distance to actuate, which makes them actually really a lot lighter to press i'm going to see if i can't scrape together the full 450 o rings i need to make my daily driver already super light and actually fast i wonder why cherry and gateron never got any feedback about the fact that such a short actuation distance should bottom out properly not long after it has hit the actuation depth? seems kinda retarded to keep pushing when it's long been switched well, i'll see i used to keep 2 on them for a long time, because they were quieter, but if i can put 3 on them and they are not just quieter but take less force to press then it's a total win for me right now nostr:nevent1qvzqqqqqqypzqnyqqft6tz9g9pyaqjvp0s4a4tvcfvj6gkke7mddvmj86w68uwe0qqsgrnnksewjy58eyugk3hlzushstmzkfuwurmd5vl3wzx8va88yy8strvupk
so, first thing to note is that some keys are not better ... notably the ones at the edge of the keyboard, mostly modifiers and there is other caveats... i also discovered that my daily driver already had double rings on it, and it is going to take a little extra attention to figure out what is what... like, funny enough, the u key needs to only have 2 also, but other keys are better with 3... for example, randomly, the 3 key... and it looks like for some keys this leads to more double presses... gonna load the whole keyboard with them though, apart from the ones that don't like it well, experimenting time i guess, maybe i'm just used to it this way and my fingers are used to travelling further. idk, could be other things too they certainly are quieter... need to test more

so, it seems that at 3 rings the manufacturning precision of these o-rings varies enough to cause a noticable variance in the tactile response of the keys. some definitely do not work properly at 3... i also discovered that i had already put 2 in my daily driver and this was why i was no so fonnd of the other one damn manufacturing precision... the two glitches i get when the 3 is too much is that either the key doesnt press, or it double presses a lot i definitely have to try out optomechanical and low profiles see, my sense of touch is so fine that fractions of a millimetre and variance of the thickness of visually identical silicone o rings causes me to be unable to type properly after removing some 20 of the keys that were misbehaving, it's definitely working better but i can also hear and feel the variance of the travel distance of these things lol, gib deh robot machined mech keyboard pls... with the optomechanical switches and micron precision machined metal parts lol
