i finally had got tired of hearing my cat coughing... it first started when i was using some shitty absorbent litter with these blue grains among the grey, and he hasn't stopped coughing fairly regularly since
i decided that it's probably because there's a lot of dust in the air and this place has very little adequate ventilation without enabling him to escape outside, so i got not one but TWO filters that have HEPA, carbon, ionizer and a UV zinc catalyst, and will put one on each floor of the house, one in the bedroom, which has only one opening, and the other down in the centre of the kitchen
hopefully this solves the problem
my cat is a little sickling... when i got him, he was in a pretty bad state with ear infection, severe gingevitis and a chronic throat infection, he had been clear of the cough for some time but i feel like the long term antibiotic use has weakened his immune system and now he can't tolerate the dust, and i know that if the air is cleaner he will have less strain and finally maybe be fully happy little cat all the time
he plays all the time now, just he sometimes has a coughing fit, maybe 7 times a day or so, and i know it's gotta be unpleasant for him... in a week or so i'll have this air filter, the pots of grass i'm growing should be bedded into the pots well enough i can let him have at it, and maybe eventually the landlord will actually install the insect screens on the windows and i'll also be able to open up the ventilation especially when there is a good breeze on... the last week of weather has been very still air and mostly quite warm and probably a lot of dust blowing over from the south, as you can see that warm air is blowing in that direction by the way the rain clouds are being driven away from the shore
the air quality in this place is not the best because of the lack of windows, and people on this island don't seem to really pay much attention to good ventilation... many houses that are left to sit, even on the upper parts of the south of the island get really bad mold growing all through them because of the high humidity from the ocean winds
well, anyway, it's done, and soon everything should be dandy for little #mochi the #catstr, which will make me happier too
#mochi the #catstr has been having this cough lately that is kinda worrying me, especially when he's sleeping on the bed next to me, but a bit also here and there during the day
i'm starting to strongly suspect a particular variety of cat food i they recently started selling at the local shop
i remember back in 2022 i had a kitten and was feeding it Whiskas in those little pouches and the cat seemed to only like the gravy, and would leave most of the "meat" behind
i looked at it closely, and it looked like soy based Textured Vegetable Protein... and this stuff that i've been feeding #mochi looks similar, but bigger chunks
i strongly suspect he is suffering an allergic reaction to this soyjunk, it was notable that he had eaten a tiny bit of it when i gave him some yesterday afternoon and he hasn't touched it and has been coughing a lot since then
so, i'm banning that shit from his diet, not only the cough but it's noticable he's not eating as much either, which although it could be something else, like inhaled dust from the shitty cat litter i had before, and i think it's probably a combination, his immune system is under attack by this fucking monsatan fucking soy crap
unbelievable that they think they can sell this shit as food for pets, it's gonna give them all kinds of diseases, arthritis, allergies, fuck i hate this modern food production system, it's so bad i couldn't even start to describe how many ways it's killing people. if i wanted to depopulate i couldn't think of a better way than poisoning peoples food
i am so grateful for having been able to get myself resided in such a beautiful place as #boaventura #madeira
i wanted a cat again since i had to let my little hochi go back in Varna, i never even hardly got to see him grow up, he was like maybe 3 months old when i left, after the war started in ukkraine
i can make complaints about how the vet did not seem to understand that i knew my little #mochi the #catstr was in a moderately painful position, but i won't, i will more focus on why i knew - i adopted a rescue cat, a little medium hair black female, i called her "bastet" after the egyptian goddess, and she was pretty awesome but she was not entirely happy
i also had to leave her behind, and my mother was kind enough to allow her to stay in the house and at some point for reasons i forget, she got some doctoring and they said she needed dental care because she had a case of chronic gingevitis
my mother reported to me that after getting the surgery, she became extremely cuddly and was so much in need of her lap that my mother found it problematic because she was interfering with her ability to do her main activity, being textile arts, spinning and knitting mostly, and she ultimately sought a new keeper for her and bastet went elsewhere...
this was ... hmm so i think she was a year old about 2008, i recall that year clearly, because i did a lot of forex trading that year and mastered making a consistent profit, and i learned not to be mean to cats that year, after one day getting cranky at her for crying to me... because her litter tray was dirty and i didn't know this but girl cats can't stand to use a litter tray that they can smell their pee in
so, yeah, i miss her, and i wish i could show you a photo of her beautifully posed sitting on top of a rolled up futon with her arms (haha, front legs) crossed looking so pretty
and she had an ongoing problem with her gums that once it was fixed, she became an extremely adoring little girl, and i'm sure that the people who took her loved her, because after she was rescued and i took her and she got her gums sorted out, she would have been a totally adorable little lap kitty for anyone whose work did not make that problematic
girl cats are also extremely affectionate, they need pats more than boy cats
so i'm quite looking forward to when this little one has his dental problems sorted out because he will be a constant pest jonesing for my lap as i work on my computer and bugging me with a chirp every so often to indicate he needs pats
the prognosis for his health is good, just that the level of pain he gets from his nasty gum problems is really quite extreme, i have never seen such a horrible thing inside a cat's mouth in my life, and my sympathy for his pain grew a lot this morning seeing it
as regards to this concept of sympathy, i also have realised that it's a synonym, exactly, for the latin word "misericorda" - to feel another's pain, and the word that is translated to english as "mercy"
so, i thought i was plagued with some kind of autistic problem but i'm plagued with mercy.
i find it extremely difficult to not sympathise, or feel the pain, of other people, and it has been almost the most strong element of my motivation in my life
i'm not averse to causing pain to others though, in my mercy to those they have caused pain to, but i walk the path of peace and when i do battle with such that cause pain i take the path of soft war, i have long wished i could get more people to understand how much that cruel, and violent people are really just seeking attention and the most effective method to keep them at bay is to simply ignore them, not to react, not to fight back... unless the violence is happening in the moment, and defense is needed, then ok, retribution must take place but the way you fight against evil is to corner it and starve it
anyway
just thinking about all the stuff tied to the current state of my kitty and how much gratitude i will feel when his pain is over and he can be my lap warmer and constant pest of my obsession, to make me pay attention to the world outside my little task, not just his needs but to remind me to switch gears sometimes to attend to other things
damn, i saw #mochi the #catstr sitting in the second floor window looking like he might be tempted to run down the wall and splat himself uncomfortably on the grass
ok, i'm gonna have to visit a hardware store and find some solution for preventing his escape now he is becoming a healthy, mischievous kitty and no longer in a fog of gingevitis and earache pain, i have a hacksaw and i guess i could get a hammer and some framing pieces and build some mochi-proof chickenwire cat-retention apparatus
gonna have to think about it quite a lot because as summer warms up it's gonna get hot up there and i don't want to think about him running away and coming back covered in ticks
i know it's gotta be pretty solid, cos he already busted out of the bathroom window, which is made of shitty aluminium and cheap plastic parts, so i know he's both ingenious and strong
i would like to have insect screens actually but making them catproof will not be easy, especially being that they have to be attached to the outside of the building, so, yeah, chickenwire and framing wood, and some proper metal retaining pieces that are mochi-proof
it's fine for right now, but in 2 months it's gonna be a big problem if i can't have air flow out those windows
#mochi the #catstr is now showing signs of the damage of him bitiing his tonge 3 days ago
very often just after he finishes eating, he is licking licking and then goes to gag and sometimes vomits some of his stomach contents
i feel so super bad for being the main reason why it happened, i clamped on his jaw trying to feed him a tablet and he bit his tongue
a bump in the road, i guess, but i still feel bad about it
day after tomorrow he is due for his evaluation of his progress at the vet, hopefully all teh signs are good and it's only this swelling in his tongue from the injury that is keeping him in a bad state
takes about 5 days for tongues to heal up... i know this because i'm a qualified body piercer, and after about 24 hours from the piercing the tongue swells up like 2x the size for about 5 days
so it feels like a setback because one of the purposes of the treatment was to reduce his gum swelling, which was causing him to poke his tongue out
and now his tongue is big so it's back where it was
it's not quite the same, but itlooks the same
i was totally unprepared for any idea of how to subdue him to enable safe adminsitration of the medicines
i did ask the vet if i could just leave him there, but he sorta brushed that away
i learned the lessons now so i'll probably do ok at completing the treatment, most likely just another 4 days and the tongue will stop being swollen and all the other things will be ok
it's horrible when you hurt the ones you love in a tense situation where you have to push them to take the medicine
