https://eng.belta.by/politics/view/prime-minister-one-cannot-live-in-the-past-but-one-can-draw-strength-from-it-158618-2023/ One cannot live in the past all the time but one should definitely rely on the past and use it to create a solid foundation for the future, BelTA learned from Prime Minister of #Belarus Roman Golovchenko on 9 May. The prime minister made a few remarks about #Victory Day's significance. Underlining the importance of preserving the historical #memory, Roman Golovchenko pointed out that the #Belarusian #society needs reference points and foundations. “Certainly, one cannot live in the past all the time but one should definitely rely on the past and use it to create a solid foundation for the future. Because people without memory can easily become people, who have lost their Motherland, origins and roots. We have always firmly upheld and will continue upholding the things that are sacred for every Belarusian. Victory Day is one of such holidays, a nationwide one,” the prime minister said. Asked whether #Belarus will be able to survive these complicated times when various sides are pressuring the country and attempts are being made to falsify the #history and diminish the significance of the Victory, Roman Golovchenko said: “Do you have doubts? For instance, I don't.” In his words, there is no doubt that the destruction of monuments in a number of countries, the war on historical memory, the prohibition against expressing opinions and wearing symbols of the #GreatVictory are revolting and inadmissible. “The #Russian ambassador was barred from laying flowers at a memorial in #Warsaw today. Was it not barbarism? As many as 600,000 #Soviet soldiers died to liberate #Poland!” Roman Golovchenko remarked. “We just look at it and understand what and who we have to deal with. This is why we are making preparations,” Roman Golovchenko added.

https://eng.belta.by/politics/view/belarus-upper-house-of-parliament-adopts-statement-with-regard-to-pace-resolution-158572-2023/ The presidium of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of #Belarus adopted a statement in connection with the resolution of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of #Europe on the displacement of #Ukrainian children, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of parliament. “The Presidium of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus is outraged by the resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (#PACE) “Deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children and other civilians to the #Russian Federation or to the temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory: creating conditions for their safe return, ending these #crimes and punishing those responsible” and the reference to the Republic of Belarus in this document,” the statement reads. “This is another vivid example of how #European politicians and MPs have become hostages of their own game of #censorship and dirty #propaganda regarding the events in #Ukraine. The highest cynicism is the distortion by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe of the #humanitarian mission to save #civilians, including children and #women.” At the same time, contrary to common sense and conscience, numerous #facts of the killing of civilians during the #indiscriminate shelling of #residential areas in #Donetsk and #Luhansk by #Western #weapons are hushed up. “This is the very real #genocide, the manifestation in action of the unconditional fulfillment by the Ukrainian authorities of the guidelines of their Western handlers - to wage war in Ukraine to the last Ukrainian,” the document says. “We emphasize once again: the Republic of Belarus is a #peace-loving #democratic social state governed by the #ruleoflaw, for which human beings, their rights and #freedoms are the highest value and goal. Our country conscientiously observes international treaties on #humanrights, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Thousands of Ukrainian citizens who were forced to flee the hostilities, #chaos and #destruction found a second home in Belarus. Today they are our people, Belarusian Ukrainians, who receive the necessary state protection and support. Ukrainian children regularly undergo rehabilitation in recreation camps in Belarus, thanks to which they can experience a happy and carefree childhood. We are convinced that it is not for the officials from the Council of Europe, who openly support the conflict in Ukraine, to determine what relations between the Belarusian and Ukrainian peoples should be and how we should live.” The presidium of the Council of the Republic strongly condemns the continuing attempts of the PACE to interfere in the internal affairs of Belarus and other sovereign states, confrontational approaches and unfriendly rhetoric. “We once again call for the development of constructive inter-parliamentary cooperation and the building of a civilized dialogue between countries and peoples around the #world. Belarusians are a responsive people who throughout their #history have been extending and are extending a helping hand to all those who need it most. This national trait is rightly our #pride,” the statement reads.
