On a broader scale, is social media distancing ourselves from each other?
bevo @Bevo - 2y
Yes was my answer until nostr. Nostr is changing that in my opinion. Made more good friends here than I thought possible on a keyboard

I think it brought those who were farther away closer, and those who were closest, farther away.

Yep

Yes, I have experimented with this irl Had a group of friends that were relaying on FB and Insta, it was a somewhat transient group. The I started inviting them to events in person face to face… I would even make a new text group each week so that people had to show up to know what was going on… that is how you build a long lasting community, social media is a lie!!!!

As for me, Nostr has produced a different result. But I don't use any other social media offers.

Very much so. The internet is the worst thing to happen to humanity. Yet I love it.

We should use nostr to organize more #PlebWalk

On one hand I start to communicate with humans I would not meet in real life because they live far away. I would love meeting you guys in real life.

I believe it is….which is why it’s important to balance it out with hanging out with people off of social media.

Nostr is changing that for me, but everything else 💯

It’s a greater number of connections, with a much wider reach, but all in very low resolution.
Why do you think that is and will that be a quality or nostr in the future?
😔
I like that
Coming to #nostrasia?
🤔

Over the years, social media has ABSOLUTELY distanced myself from others. Just far too much stupidity from people in general for me to want to actively participate in it. Plus it doesn't help having a ton of other interests that take up my time. So trying to meet people online that I can resonate with is an exercise in futility for me. I just think the amount of time I would have to invest in it to get the desired outcome is not worthwile unless it was for business purposes. Back in the early dial-up days of the internet, I didn't feel this way at all. I would actually look forward to chatting with people online then. However, nostr is giving me that old charm of the early days of the internet. Though I do have concern about that eventually fading as the rest of the mainstream social medias continue to go down the gutter.

Not exactly. Social media allow to stablish connections with people like us, and at the same time distancing us to people opposing us. These networks increase polarization in all of us.
