We're not going under 500 sats, to keep the principle that services cost money. After a year, we'll reevaluate our cost basis and add a premium tier with CI and etc. I think it's okay to low-ball an introductory offer.
That's the discount you get for suffering through the beta phase. Which seems fair.
And we don't know what 500 sats will be worth, in one year.

i'm going to pleasantly disagree i think 5ksat is a great price, i would think that anything under 3ksat is too cheap "where are they getting the other money from?"
i think if we present a price under what it costs to self host directly on commonly known cheap hosts is a bad idea
Therefore, you don't control what is hosted and we can upsell other services. 🤔
You're forgetting that it's just gonna be an HTTP git server. We stripped it way down and are bringing in a higher tier.
The http server also does SSH, I think. At least, the Apache one does. nostr:npub1qdjn8j4gwgmkj3k5un775nq6q3q7mguv5tvajstmkdsqdja2havq03fqm7 ?
git without ssh is pain git is a unix native application, it thinks in terms of unix filesystem... in unix, everything is a file plan9's main protagonist, Rob Pike, pioneered the idea of "everything is a server" which was actually the genesis of HTTP, because it implies both filesystems and sockets are now under one umbrella it's not for nothing that I'm a #golang maximalist Rob Pike is the hero you all didn't know you needed, and Golang is basically his work, with some help from others anyone who is a serious geek about operating systems who doesn't get what Plan9 was about just doesn't know what plan9 was about
The problem with 3k-5k is that it's prohibitively expensive to some people in some places, at the same time as it's not enough to sustainably offer the cool CI/CD stuff that nostr:npub1qdjn8j4gwgmkj3k5un775nq6q3q7mguv5tvajstmkdsqdja2havq03fqm7 and nostr:npub16ux4qzg4qjue95vr3q327fzata4n594c9kgh4jmeyn80v8k54nhqg6lra7 and etc. have planned. That stuff will need computation and performance to be attractive, so we need a much higher price-point, for that, perhaps even further-tiered for consumption and size and etc. We also had so much interest in sponsoring, that we decided to bring in stingier, low-ball offer for #smolldevs and then send the bigger players the bill with a higher tier.
So, it makes more sense to offer the AUTH relay and 500MB of space for 500 sats and a premium version upwards of 10k. The whole middle section is not attractive pricing.
And then people can sponsor the project by being premium relay subscribers, and we can offer them some stuff that is attractive, even if they aren't devs. Trying to figure out a sort of sustainable cross-financing.
i think making a supporters option is a good one, github sponsors is bullshit complicated
i think we should try to max out the advantage of anonymous, free play contribution as much as possible, as well as maybe some gamification, perhaps we can issue expiring badge events to people for doing this?
i think this is the right strategy i already want to pay my 10ksat subscription
the process of signing up for that bullshit is so bad that i have it, i think, but nobody has ever sent me a cent nostr is already winning for legit attempts at crowdfunding devs even before i got involved with gitcitadel geyser is not doing too badly but they are not nostr-first so it's a niche we can build out
So do I. 😂 We're planning on migrating from OneDev to #GitRepublic, so it'll have to be good enough to satisfy me, which is a high bar and well worth 10k.

Yeah, this would give us a nice platform for developing and testing that sort of thing.

it could be done but i i'm not sure how you augment openssh with a new signature algorithm, i don't think it's built as modular as git, which lets you create custom handlers for several facets such as credential helpers i think if you just make nostr auth easy with http why bother with the SSH key implementation, users can just use normal SSH keys, until an augmented version is built - i severely doubt it would be easy to get the openssh project to accept a new signature algorithm
nostr events would be so much neater than webhooks
