Back to the incredible Minibits for my lightning address for now (with a degree of shame). It felt great to have [email protected] for a bit, but running LNBits behind my LAN via Umbrel is too much of a fragile pain in the ass. Once I get LNBits out onto an easier-to-wrangle and static-IP VPS I'll be very happy to use my own domain again.
I had a local nginx proxy running on another server at home (plus router port forwards and dynamic DNS scripts, certbot renewals, etc) + LNBits configs to wire everything together. when LNBits or Umbrel had updates - or my home network or power would have issues - the very fragile connection between all these things would break **somewhere** and I'd have to go in and manually fix everything. totally not sustainable and extremely annoying. 95% of it would be fixed by having LNBits on a VPS. It's a classic case of "the easy UX thing (Umbrel) is great if you don't want to get weird, but customizing it ends up being worse than doing it from scratch yourself". I started off in easy mode and quickly ran into the wall where easy mode gets in your own way. happens to me a lot.
