I’ll start — People often ask me which Alan Watts book to read first. In my opinion, “The Book: On The Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are” is his magnum opus. It’s short, and yet every word of it has depth. I find myself thinking about its teachings nearly every day, as it so perfectly relays the internal debate curious people have surrounding the age-old question: “Who am I?” The answers will astound you, particularly if you are a Westerner who’s unfamiliar with Buddhist/Hindu philosophy. Alan has a unique ability to bring to bear both Eastern and Western thought for a remarkably well-rounded view of reality #AlanWatts #Bookstr https://nostr.build/i/nostr.build_6de4c1e4a0653e2f74d32d6b1d863af08863a8bbfcc4d27a2f05f145fbf8bb7f.jpeg #[2]

I’m there 👏🏻👏🏻
Would be a wonderful way to separate out and share quotes and snippets of audiobooks too!
I’m imagining basically a decentralized GoodReads that just aggregates all data, quotes, recommendations, and users for a searchable “bookverse.” This is a cool ass idea. You can do this for so many topics 🤔🔥💜
Great idea

I’m always down to talk about books. What genre for a nostr book club?

I’ll be curious to see the “tutorial videos” — recipes/cooking, music teachers, tech how-to’s, those sort of posts — and how they operate with the ability to zap. My guess is it will prioritize quality over engagement/clickbait But also, with the short “life span” of any post currently, I’d imagine there will also be demand (from content creators, at least) for some algorithmic options, to get their presumably-valuable content in front of more eyes.
i’m gonna start this one tonight if anyone wants to read with me
The lack of punctuation drives me bananas. I read it in women’s lit in college. I’m not sure I actually made it through it when it was assigned. Stream of consciousness writing is incredibly hard for me to read or at least it was.
haha wish me luck in that case! what’re you reading lately?
I just re read “Three Day Road” by Joseph Boyden.
I finally got around to reading Digital Gold by Nathaniel Popper. On the fiction decks I have The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin I also have Trillion Dollar Coach as an audiobook. I find it impossible to only have one book going at a time.
let me know how you like the Zevin novel! i’ve heard good things
how was it the second time around?

You’re not kidding! If not, engagement is going to plateau soon, then slowly descend. Problem is, if you post about anything else you get no response. I tested this. I’d swear I heard an actual echo…
I still enjoyed it. I like The Orenda more.
