The Raspberry Pi 5 was just announced yesterday. For this week's #FOSSFriday, I'm going to tell you about RaspiBolt! If you've ever wanted to run a Bitcoin and Lightning node and you've wanted to build it from scratch, giving yourself full control over the whole process, this is your guide. There are no Docker containers here. 🔥 RaspiBolt is a popular software project that allows anyone to set up a Bitcoin and Lightning node on a Raspberry Pi. This makes it a relatively affordable and easy way to support the Bitcoin network and participate in the Lightning Network. ⚡ RaspiBolt is also a great way to learn more about Bitcoin and Lightning and learn about Linux in general. The installation and configuration process is well-documented, and there is a large and active community of users who are happy to provide support. 🐧 BONUS: You don't have to use a Raspberry Pi Either. That's right. You can use this guide for essentially any hardware. Just don't complete the Raspberry Pi specific configuration steps. I promise you, it will be fine. When I rebuilt my node a few months ago, I mostly followed this guide to make sure I wasn't missing anything. It works great. I don't use a Raspberry Pi. I use a 4 year old Laptop. 🔥 If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Umbrel isn’t open sourced and I believe this is. I’ve been wanting to build a new node from scratch with all open-source software
Do what?
Umbrel is great for beginners. I ran one for 3 years. I wanted to do more and have more control. My Umbrel node was running a bunch of custom apps. Additionally, Umbrel has a visual management interface. This does not. Though, I do use Thunderhub. Better is a tough argument because it's highly subjective.
MiniBolt is just a copy and paste with the architecture changed. The website even used to mention Rapsbiolt in various places 🤣 After I saw that I assumed it was a hack job, and went back to Rapsbiolt.

Running both Umbrel and Raspiblitz (which is a more automated version of Raspibolt?) One certainly feels more like a shadowy super-coder using command line with lightning. 😂

Who the hell cares It’s a guide and if it works it works
If you're going to steal the content and not bother to change it all, it's a hack job. If they're going to skip there, what other shortcuts did they take? Nope.
Despite the similar naming conventions Raspbibolt and Raspiblitz are very different.
I did it myself. They didn’t skip anything imho
Interesting. Thoughts on blitz?
I've never ran it. Think of Blitz as a FOSS Umbrel. nostr:npub1mc20uche0cy599vpl850aschpu7wteundgsnf0msep79lu3fu5aq3r4ptv ran it for a while. He converted his Umbrella to Blitz.

I loved raspiblitz. The only reason i switched back to umbrel a second time was nearly losing a lot of sats in a freak lightning accident where i killt my own node and hadn’t backed up my channels properly. Umbrel is tard-friendlier, but raspiblitz makes a tard feel shadowy supercoderish af
Ha! Well said.
Yes.

Am I stealing from myself? 😂 https://github.com/raspibolt/raspibolt/blob/master/LICENSE https://github.com/minibolt-guide/minibolt/blob/main/LICENSE https://github.com/raspibolt/raspibolt/graphs/contributors https://github.com/minibolt-guide/minibolt/graphs/contributors Read and then give your opinion.
