And don’t want to bomb other neighborhoods
Gotcha yeah totally possible. I agree and think that moderated communities (like Reddit) on Nostr should use an event kind other than 1 to make sure it doesn’t show up on the general feed of Twitter-like clients. But that’s not how NIP 72 is defined right now.
Similar problem to private group chat it’s not solved yet. You can do it but it’s essentially going to be a group chat. If you’re looking for a private Reddit type experience I haven’t heard of anything yet. There are moderated communities like Reddit on Nostr but I think all the posts that are allowed are publicly available.
Absolutely 😊 and if you can get nostr:npub1lrnvvs6z78s9yjqxxr38uyqkmn34lsaxznnqgd877j4z2qej3j5s09qnw5 using it you’ll get a lot of great content going. One of the best memelords around.
Congrats nostr:npub1wv79gfl4tn46qxs0vcr6kr73rqethvna0kchk4cw06mmdzsgrkdqmkxye0 ! Nice work tonight 💪
Yeah I wanted to help make it easy to publish updated sets of relays using https://relay.guide but not every client uses the same system for respecting a user’s preferred relays. If we could agree a bit more on that then a combo of Relay Guide and a backup tool could make it really easy
Hey nostr:npub1vwymuey3u7mf860ndrkw3r7dz30s0srg6tqmhtjzg7umtm6rn5eq2qzugd loved the episode, thanks for your feedback on the NostrTechWeekly post. Much appreciated. Re your idea of Nostr being more similar to how Napster works. It’s an interesting idea, it just has trade offs. What you’re talking about is more P2P/Distributed system which is definitely ideal for censorship resistance. It does have performance downsides, especially as the number of things you want to share goes up (there’s only a few million songs total but there are trillions of social posts) What you’re proposing can definitely be done technically. It just may not be scalable to handle all future Nostr usage. There is wisdom to how FiatJ made Nostr a decentralized system (which is different from a distributed or P2P system with different trade offs. Decentralized might be the right balance between centralized and distributed that can be more censorship resistant than current players and also efficient enough to work as a first-rate social experience. I’m happy to chat more if you’d like. It’s a nuanced topic.
What do yall think of doing a different event kind than a standard note? It feels like it would clutter the feed of kind 1 focused clients.
Worst part is that there’s no way to transfer the money back out. And the automated help line said that the money would be help for an unspecified time. How can there be no way to appeal or talk to anyone?
Yo nostr:npub1sg6plzptd64u62a878hep2kev88swjh3tw00gjsfl8f237lmu63q0uf63m my wife just opened a square account for her small business and it got deactivated without any reason given. She just transferred in money to start buying equipment and we can’t get a representative to talk to us about reactivating or getting the money out.
Interesting 🤔 well I look forward to more info
Have you written out the architecture anywhere yet? Would love to dive in and understand
I’m open to being convinced but what do we need this for? Is it just private DMs?
Nostr isn’t distributed. Here’s the difference https://www.hivenet.com/post/decentralized-or-distributed-whats-the-big-difference
But it’s the difference between a distributed and decentralised network. Distributed is P2P and it has even more trade offs than decentralised networks. There are no free lunches
This feels like something fundamentally different from the Nostr protocol. Is that the goal? I’m open to being convinced but P2P is a different model than client and relay. Is this just for a limited set of features?
I was thinking your password is your decryption key so that even if the place is hacked the service provider could never decrypt your nsec
But you can’t post or decrypt DMs with just an npub
Ima actually thinking about for more normal folks that think in username and password instead of private key and public key. Create a way to allow them to give an email as username and set a password. Offer 2FA and a reset password flow. Then they can get their npub and/or their nsec so they don’t have to store it themselves Eventually the hope is that clients support “login with WhateverWeCallIt” so it’ll insert the nsec automatically into the client (and for clients that store it locally, store it locally) Further down the line I’d imagine it would be a way for folks to set which clients they want to give what access so that we can give people a way to get rid of the annoying NIP 7 pop ups. Mostly it is for folks that are less self-custody maxis, but still care about controlling what clients can do with their keys.
I mean for key storage of private keys. Thinking of an oauth type flow to log in to various clients without having to copy and paste the private key.
