Watched Dead Man’s shoes (2004), a psychological thriller directed by Shane Meadows. The protagonist is a soldier who comes back to his hometown to get revenge against the group of people who abused his brother. The movie is very dark and gritty. Themes are redemption, guilt and vengeance. The soundtrack is excellent. The movie has a low budget but it was very well spent: the flashbacks in black & white, with the barely distinguishable dialogues are perfect, like distant memories. Action scenes are well executed. The story is solid. The dialogues too. There’s a 5% of the dialogues that are lost in translation because of the heavy accents. I really enjoyed this one. It goes in the rewatch pile. 8.8/10 #nodereviews

Watched The Amateur (2025), an action thriller directed by James Hawes. The protagonist is a CIA cryptographer looking for revenge after his wife is killed in a terrorist attack. His superior don’t want to act on the intel he found so he takes matters into his own hands. He blackmails the agency into training him and then gets his revenge. The whole “blackmailing your employer into training you” doesnt make much sense but the movie was very entertaining. Special effects were really good. Explosions were well made. Rami Malek was very believable in his role. (This is a remake of a 1981 movie) 7.6/10 #nodereviews
Watched Until Dawn (2025), a slasher horror movie directed by David F. Sandberg. The protagonist and her friends travel to a remote town, one year after the disappearance of her sister. They end up in a timeloop where they are killed by various horrors every night. They have a limited number of deaths and have to survive until dawn to escape the loop. Very entertaining. Not that scary but entertaining. Special effects were well made. Makeup as well. Some elements of the story didn’t make sense but it was cohesive overall. Fun fact: it’s set in the same universe as the 2015 video game (same title) 7.5/10 #nodereviews
Watched Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with me (1992), directed by David Lynch. It’s a prequel to the classic series. It tells the story of the dark and surreal last days of Laura Palmer. She’s a troubled high school teen who battles with addiction, abuse and the occult. It’s very dark. Much darker than the show. The movie is very interesting as it explains the central murder of the series. I was told to watch it after seasons 1 and 2. Makes a lot of sense that way. The pace of the movie was great. Roughly 2 hours to tell the story. The music was excellent. The acting as well. I wish the actress who played Donna, Laura’s friend, came back to play her role. It would have been a better continuity. 7.5/10 #nodereviews

Watched Ronin (1998), an action-crime thriller directed by John Frankenheimer. The story follows a group of mercenaries hired to steal a briefcase, which contents are unknown. They navigate a web of lies to try and figure out what’s really going on. It explores teams of betrayal and loyalty in a post Cold War setting. I really enjoyed this one. It has everything: action, intense fun fights, epic car chases, a double cross every 5 minutes. And the cast is stellar: Robert De Niro, Jean Reno, Stellan Skarsgård, Sean Bean, Natacha McElhone. 8.7/10 #nodereviews
Watched 28 years later (2025), a zombie horror movie directed by Danny Boyle. In quarantined post apocalyptic UK, a young boy travels to the infected mainland to find a doctor for his sick mother. He discovers mutated zombies and human cults. I really wanted to enjoy this film. From a legendary director. The story was bland. Very boring compared to 28 days later. The mutated zombies were very interesting but this seemed like a low quality zombie movie. Boyle is capable of much better. The twist in the story wasn’t even one. Very predictable. The movie even sets up for a sequel (another cash grab). 5/10 #nodereviews

Watched Fando y Lis (1968), directed by Alejandro Jodorowsky. It’s his feature film debut. Fando and his partially paralyzed girlfriend Lis travel through a post apocalyptic desert. They’re trying to find the legendary city of Tar: they think it will cure Lis and make them happy forever. They encounter really weird groups of people along the way, sometimes making them question their sanity. The movie explores themes of surrealism, eroticism and abuse. Most of the movie is hard to get. Lots of cultural references I imagine. Very odd. You can tell it’s Jodorowsky’s first movie. He tried to make dream sequences but it didn’t work out that well. I also didn’t like that Fando was really abusive throughout the movie. The music was excellent and the sceneries were beautiful as well. 4/10 #nodereviews

Watched Halloween (1978), a horror movie directed by John Carpenter. Michael Myers, 6 years old, stabs his sister to death on Halloween. He is sent to an asylum for the criminally insane. 15 years later, he escapes and returns to his small town to kill again. I really enjoyed this one. Very eerie. The killer never speaks, which adds to his creepy stalker vibe. Seeing him stalk the main character and her friends really adds to the tension. Jamie Lee Curtis is really good as the protagonist, Michael Myers’ prey. It’s her feature film debut. 8/10 #nodereviews

Watched El Topo (1970), directed, written and starring Alejandro Jodorowsky. The film follows El Topo, a cowboy dressed in all black, on a spiritual quest through a weird desert. Feels like the good, the bad and the ugly on a heroic dose of shrooms. He has to fight odd characters to achieve enlightenment. The movie was filmed in multiple regions of Mexico. It’s absolutely stunning. At first I wasn’t really sure what the movie was about, since it’s so weird. But once you get to the second part, it’s about the violent encounters between different religion. It’s a cult classic. Very odd movie. 7.2/10 #nodereviews

Watched Final Destination: Bloodlines (2025), a horror movie directed by Zach Lipovsky & Adam B. Stein. A college student is haunted by nightmares of a tower collapse decades ago. She discovers her grandmother cheated Death, which caused the family bloodline. Death is now targeting the protagonist and her family. They have to uncover the origin of the curse to save themselves. I saw this one a month ago. Did not rewatch (or feel the need to for now). I find this one is the best of the whole series as it has a proper story explaining the universe around it. Making sense of what’s happening. The special effects for the tower collapse and the other accidents are well made. The acting could be better. 6/10 #nodereviews
Watched Final Destination 5 (2011), a horror movie directed by Steven Quale. The protagonist has a premonition that saves him and others from a bridge collapse. Death then comes for them one by one throughout the movie. Same plot as all the other movies of the series. There are some nice plot elements that tie in the story together. The bridge collapse is also interesting to see. 5.9/10 #nodereviews

Watched the final destination (2009), a horror movie directed by David R. Ellis. The fourth one in the series. A group of people survive a car crash explosion at a race track. Death stalks the survivors. Kills them one by one in brutal ways. This one is the worst one by far. Don’t watch it. 4/10 #nodereviews
Watched Final Destination 3 (2006), a horror movie directed by James Wong. After escaping a deadly roller coaster accident with some friends, the protagonist tries to uncover Death’s plan. The group of survivors is killed off one by one. Very original, I know. There are a few scenes where the special effects shine: the roller coaster scene and the metro scene. The gym scene is also entertaining. 5.6/10 #nodereviews

Watched Final Destination 2 (2003), a horror movie directed by David R. Ellis. Same concept as the first one. Exact same thing. A young woman and others survive a deadly accident. They are then followed by Death and they try to cheat its plan. The survivor of the first movie returns to help them. There’s a little bit more insight as to what’s going on compared to the first movie. But it’s still doesn’t make that much sense. The deadly accident at the beginning of the movie, with the log truck is excellent. Great special effects. 5.8/10 #nodereviews
Also watched Final Destination (1999), a horror movie directed by James Wong. It follows a high school student who has a premonition about a plane exploding that kills everyone aboard. He’s able to prevent a few of his classmates from dying. Death then stalks the survivors and gets them one by one, in gruesome ways. It’s entertaining but a bit rough around the edges. I didn’t start in order, the first one I’ve seen of this series is Final Destination: Bloodlines that came out this year. I find Bloodlines is way better than the first one. The story makes a lot more sense and the film is more polished. 5.9/10 #nodereviews

Watched Ballerin (2023), directed by Lee Chung-Hyun. It’s a Korean action (martial arts) revenge movie. The protagonist, an ex-bodyguard, seeks revenge for her best friend who committed suicide after being involved with a sex trafficker. Lots of intense fighting sequences and neon-lit visuals. Very entertaining. There’s one action scene where the main character fights off armed robbers with a can of pineapples. 7.5/10 #nodereviews

Watched They Live (1988), a satirical sci-fi action movie directed by John Carpenter. A drifter discovers sunglasses that reveal aliens controlling humanity with messages in media. He teams up with a friend to expose the aliens. It’s a critique of consumerism and control. I enjoyed it. Very entertaining. It has a slow start but picks up nicely. 7.6/10 #nodereviews

Watched Mulholland Drive (2001), directed by David Lynch. It's a neo-noir mystery. After a car accident on Mulholland Drive, a woman loses her memory and hides in an apartment. She meets an aspiring actress who helps her remember who she is. Reality and fiction start to blur together as a darker side of Hollywood is revealed. Lots of dreamlike sequences. The storytelling is very hazy and everything is left to interpretation. I really enjoyed this one. One of my favourites of Lynch, alongside Lost Highway. 8/10 #nodereviews

Watched the straight story (1999), directed by David Lynch. Based on a true story. The main character is an elderly man with failing health. He embarks on a journey across Iowa and Wisconsin on his lawnmower to make peace with his estranged brother who just suffered a stroke. The movie addresses themes of family, resilience and forgiveness. I enjoyed this one more than Wild at Heart and Blue Velvet. More down to earth 6.9/10 #nodereviews
