I am the absolute worst #value4value target audience. I am a ridiculously cheap bastard and really hate to spend money. Like ever. I have never paid for subscriptions, I won’t pay for Netflix, or twitter. No cable TV. Won’t pay for Spotify. I torrent music and films and use pirated software instead of paying. But I have zapped more sats on nostr:npub1yfg0d955c2jrj2080ew7pa4xrtj7x7s7umt28wh0zurwmxgpyj9shwv6vg & nostr:npub1v5ufyh4lkeslgxxcclg8f0hzazhaw7rsrhvfquxzm2fk64c72hps45n0v5 than I would ever have spent on corporate media. I have zapped the #nostr client devs and Bitcoin devs more than I ever gave to fucking Adobe in 12 years working as a professional photographer. I gladly donate to nostr:npub1xnf02f60r9v0e5kty33a404dm79zr7z2eepyrk5gsq3m7pwvsz2sazlpr5 more than I’d would ever have let my old fiat bank claw from my grubby fingers in bank fees. I pay for relays, I zap plebs when they make me laugh, or think… or when they post particularly cute cat pictures. I’m willing to pay more for quality wares sold for #bitcoin. We did this for this season! Cancelled all our wholesale accounts and now run everything through our on site farmstand - 100% pay what you can / donation based. No more working our asses off and putting in 16 hour days for less $5 an hour. Now we grow food simply because we love it and we love the self sovereign lifestyle it affords us. Also, another important aspect: #V4V means exchanging whatever we can with no fiat involved whatsoever. We trade with neighboring producers for their products that we don't produce ourselves. So we have vegetables, eggs, meat, dairy, baked goods, etc all covered. #CircularEconomy means exchanging #bitcoin directly with other businesses that accept it. We buy coffee and some value-added products from producers around the world and pay directly in Bitcoin. Basically– Avoid fiat at all costs, and exchange as few sats as possible back to fiat only when absolutely necessary!
Yes, that's the general idea. We simply decided we were no longer willing to trade our finite time for infinite USD anymore. I'd rather earn bitcoin in whatever ways I can, even if it's currently far less than we earned before in dollar. Opt out completely of the fiat system. At this point it's an experiment and may possibly fail? But on the other hand, I am hopeful that we can build it back piece by piece under an entirely new model– and if we don't at least try to fully embrace the #circulareconomy how can we expect it to work?? The other problem we grappled with was selling food for profit: With inflation rapidly increasing we were forced to raise our prices regularly to keep up. We realized we were eventually pricing out the majority of our neighbors and restricting access to healthy organic food to only those wealthy enough to afford it. So rather than set prices in USD we are opening up to 'pay-what-you-can' and hoping that those who 'can' will help to pay for those who 'can not'. We are simply not willing to play fiat games any more, and experimenting in an effort to find a new (better?) way of doing 'business'. Maybe it will work, maybe it won't.
