I did not watch the linked videos because most podcasts are crap, but yes. UTXO set polluters will keep polluting. They do not care about OPR only that their data becomes “permanent” and unprunable in the UTXO set. Inscribers will not pay 4x either because they like their SegWit discount So this benefits no one
You are technically right but Mechanic's point is social. He argues that we have to uphold an ethos against spam. If we don't care about spam or "JPGs" on Bitcoin, we might get centralization from those abusing the protocol.

yep, it's an empty gesture that seems like pandering to shitcoiners, no wonder a lot of people are refusing to upgrade or switching to knots plus there has been a bunch of suspicious PRs getting merged on the core repo that raise a lot of red flags my feeling is that core dev group has been effectively infiltrated and is now going to lose all credibility going forward
