The #monarch butterflies have been hatching out in droves over the past few days. At least three more chrysalis in the garden are ready to pop at any moment sometime today. Last pic is one just about ready to open; the color changes dramatically during the last few hours before the butterfly becomes too large to be contained and finally pops out! Once it emerges, the wings are still small and crumpled and it pumps fluid from the abdomen into the wings and they rapidly expand. It will take a few hours after emergence for the wings to fully dry before it will take to the skies.
