#start9 servers are expensive because they got no black box near the cpu, but yes you can run startOS on any x86 computer. if you buy used cpu and mainboard you could build it for 300 USD i thin. but with only 100USD you will lack performance anyway. even the 2TB ssd is like 90USD

I ran both but now just running #start9 and it’s been great. Uptime is 100% the documentation and tech support is really top notch. It is extremely limited on apps unlike umbrel and running CLN was a pain but other than those two things it has been a pleasant experience

did you try #seedsigner i most likely never use ledger again but i also run #start9 its awesome and i cant wait for the clearnet support release
