Damus really needs the ability to mute threads. The app is becoming useless with all these huge stupid notes with hundreds of tags. I’m missing lots of important notifications. (and before anyone says, ‘but app xxxx has this feature’, yes, I know, I’m talking specifically about Damus here, thank you for your concern)

The entirety of my mentions every time I open the app is people complaining about damus. Finding myself not wanting to open the app as much these days. I have been working 24/7 since December and even pushed an update in the air on the way to CR. Reminder I’m not making any money on this app and its still a passion project is slowly bankrupting me. Sorry if I’m not working hard enough 😕

That's not fair, not at all. Delegate some of the work to friends or users who do care. The vast majority of us are developers at this point, and I think there are plenty of things you could ask for help with. I've worked alone on a massive, almost legacy, project before... it was the longest and fastest year of my life. I did so because of loyalty to the Founder who'd lost his way. The best thing I did was ask for help. Really.

The app is awesome, there is always a million more features to add. It will take time. Users will always be impatient. Take a well deserved vacation, and don’t burn out. Monetization will come, but leave it to think about after some rest. Pretty people would be happy to pay a basic subscription to start, until some more interesting model idea comes.

Don't get burned out. I'm on Android so I don't use Damus, but from what I've seen it is one of the best Nostr clients out there regardless of platform. There will always be complainers. Focus on the people with nice things to say and keep building the features that you feel are important and worthwhile. You clearly have an amazing head on your shoulders, but even the best heads need some rest. There is plenty of time for building, so always make sure to take time for yourself too.

I probably can’t imagine your notifications. A few Hellthreads cut my nostr usage, you’ve had worse for months! I’ve been here since you went all in December. Damus is 90% of my nostr and that’s largely because how well you’ve built it. You’re doing great 🤙

#[0] It’s true, nostr is powered entirely by passion. Developers are often pouring their hearts and souls into coding practically every day AFTER a full day at work. It’s incredibly taxing and often at the expense of other things like family time or work performance. A good reminder to be grateful for what we have already. Perhaps a more formal feature request and bug reporting channels for non-devs would also help in not voicing issues with clients.

Don't pay attention to people like that. They don't have a technical background and don't realize how much hard efforts go into app creation. I do troubleshooting for an app that is used by huge businesses, and even it has trouble. No app will ever be perfect. But I think you are doing a great job #[5] , just ignore them and be confident in your skills and knowledge.

I don’t think bug reports are a problem, they certainly are useful for Will and any devs in general. It’s rather how you report them I suspect. People complaining of a free service developed by people who don’t make any money on it are not helping anything.

I don't use damus, I'm on Amethyst, but from what I can tell, a lot more effort has gone into Damus as a whole, and it runs better than what I'm experiencing So I really don't get what people are complaining about? Idk, fuckem, thank you for your hard work, and I'm sorry people are assholes I'm currently learning how to work on things myself, so I don't have to complain about Amethyst, but can contribute instead 🫶🫂
