This bill is not okay and sets a very scary precedence. A minimum of 20 year sentence and $250,000 fine just for using a VPN to access banned applications? This is maddening. I get wanting to protect users from Chinese spyware. I do. I get the dangers of TikTok. I think TikTok should be removed and delisted from app stores. 👀 What I am absolutely NOT okay with is these overreaching acts of punishments. We are literally turning ourselves into the place that we're banning these surveillance applications from. It's not good. https://www.congress.gov/118/bills/s686/BILLS-118s686is.pdf

I feel like I need to catch up in the news. I feel out of the loop on things.
You are correct, I knew that too and typed that out incorrectly. My bad. Where's the CEO, I need an edit button.

Dangers of tiktok? That’s a loaded statement…America was all worked up when China wanted to ban Google and Apple…and now we are doing the exact same thing!

Why is there no Bitcoin specific fund & committee to help lead & influence these early decisions of Washington? ...Or is there? Show me good policy that has ever come into law that was not directed by the outside in?

To protect people from Chinese spyware, couldn’t they just tell people it’s Chinese spyware and it would be best not to use it? Protection and Freedom!

It is totally dystopian. Congress be like “China is bad m’kay but pay no attention to the fact that we’re passing a law that makes us more like China.” Remember a lot of the elites keep saying China is the new model.

Also what about EU, UK, Australia, Canada? Some form of it needs to be in effect everywhere in the former "free" world in order to really work. I'm on lookout for the first signs of the propaganda. So far it has just been that "tiktok bad" "govt employees are prohibited to use tiktok on their phones", but nothing this crazy as this bill. That doesn't mean EU technocrats aren't working on it. Once more countries join in, we'll know we're fckd and nothing pleb-like can really stop it.

I hate this just as much as anyone. Let’s be clear in our comments on it while we are at it so we can maintain credibility I’ve read the whole thing (don’t trust, verify, right?). Many people are quoting “minimum 20 year sentence”. The language of the bill is “not more than 20 years” thus it is a maximum sentence. Regardless, we need to do all we can to stop this ridiculous legislation.

I don't think tik tok should be delisted, and I don't care what they say about VPN usage, if they want to send then they'll have to come get me. They can't prove fuck all about what I'm doing on the internet, they won't breach any of my devices, they won't get my bitcoin, and they won't get me to bend the knee. This bill will never pass, but if it does then the government will have finally striked out.

The backlash against TikTok is just a front for this bill. Always has been.

Yeah I’m with you on this one. Everyone reading this note should 100% uninstall TikTok, but that bill is scary.

Having TIKTOK on your phone is like giving your phone to a complete stranger and they can look at it without any repercussions.
