I think it's mostly the lack of algorithms that feed dogs into the dogpile. For example, the #Texas tag is often used by commie fake-news propaganda fedi pedo trash. Now, that's sure to rile up some of these idiots, but I either have them muted already, or they're still asleep with their Pokemon waifu pillows. A couple might mouth off, but it will die out pretty quick. Anywhere else, the activity would get fed to every neckbeard around, and it'd be on like Donkey Kong. With Nostr it's no fuel, no fire. Just like in meatspace, you simply aren't there for every little nyah-nyah petty sniping argument people might have. It's great. Social media algos are just Karen the office gossip pot-stirrer.
I'm coming around to them when they're user-selected and controlled, but just barely. It still feels like having booze in the house with an alcoholic.
