history has cycles, as does weather, and as does the weather on the stars and the whole damn galaxy so, yeah the end of the world as we know it has been in the culture since probably around the time of Jesus and the writings of John the prophet in any case, so yeah, nothing unique there and no it's not gonna be the kurzweil singularity... AI is not going to replace us or merge with us or anything... and it's not going to be biotech probably it's gonna just be most of the world gets washed away and only a few hundred thousand humans survive and even most of the stuff is gone so we can't just scavenge and rebuild
